THEME

Immigration is a core issue addressed by the Committee on  Democracy, Social Cohesion and Global Challenges. The recent humanitarian disasters in Central Europe and off the Italian and Greek sides have moved the peoples of Europe and highlighted its complexity. These initiate a displacement of the center of gravity of Europe which puts the Mediterranean in its former role as a crossroads and challenge for Democracy. NGOs and INGOs on the ground need to coordinate their efforts to encourage States and European institutions to act more vigorously.

OBJECTIVES
Give support to  NGOs facing migration phenomena.
NGOs need to understand
  • the reasons for the influx of migrants in the Mediterranean
    • Political reasons
    • Economic reasons
    • climatic reasons
  •  The consequences in European countries
    • Economic reasons
    • Political reasons
    • in the field of Human rights
    • in the field of Education
  • The framework and tools for action
    • upsteam (solidarity and co-development)
    • in host countries
    • in the direction of European states and the European institutions
ACTION PLANNED
  • Identification of situations observed and the actions taken by the INGOs in different countries (countries of emigration and host countries).
  • Collaboration with IOM (international office of Migrations) and the relevant committee of the parliamentary assembly
  • .Establishing a repository of replicable practices proposed by the INGOs
  • Preparation of a discussion seminar on "Immigration, a democratic issue for Europe and the world"

EXPECTED RESULTS
  •  Better collaboration between INGOs and dissemination of "good practices"
  • Foster sustainable migrration policies
